What should I expect when my scout returns from NYLT?

Scouts who go through National Youth Leadership Training emerge able to better understand the patrol method, the cycles of team development, and the process of planning an outing. The skills NYLT graduates have begun to hone make them qualified to serve as a Patrol Leader, Den Guide, or even Senior Patrol Leader. However, that’s not to say NYLT graduates are done learning leadership, this program is the best foundation for a scout’s leadership abilities, but it is not the capstone.

Who is eligible to go to NYLT?

NYLT is open to any Boy Scout or Venturer their Scoutmaster or Crew Advisor recommends. Because NYLT is a program designed for scouts with some experience, we expect that participants have earned their First Class Rank or Venturing Award, and are 13 years old, or older. If you have a scout that you believe to be a good candidate but has not earned the required rank, or is too young exceptions are made at the course director’s discretion.

How do I register a scout for NYLT?

NYLT registration can be done on the Hoosier Trail Council Website here.
